2C-E is a psychedelic phenethylamine, member of the 2C-x family. Phenethylamines could be derived from the modification of the mescaline molecule. If they contain two methoxy groups on the 2 and 5 positions of the benzene ring then they could be part of the 2C-x family. 2C-E is a member of the 2C-x family which contains an amino (-NH2) group bound to a phenyl ring through an ethyl chain. Similar as other C-x members, it contains two methoxy groups (CH3O-) on the 2 and 5 positions and an ethyl chain with the amino group bound to the position 4 of the phenyl ring, so according to IUPAC chemical name is 2,5-dimethoxy-4-ethylphenyl-2-aminoethane, C12H19NO2, Mr 209.29 g/mol.
Similar to 2C-B or 2C-C, it was first synthesized by Alexander Shulgin.
Researchers believe that 2C-E could be the 5-HT2A receptor partial agonist, but the full mechanism of that reaction is still unknown.
2C-E has the strong physical effect, and it is usually considered to be as energetic and
stimulating as MDMA.
Other 2C-E’s effects include emotional and creativity enhancement, color enhancement,
distortion and, hallucination. Some researchers report similarities with other well-known
hallucinogen psychotropics like LSD.
2,5-dimethoxy-4-ethylphenyl-2-aminoethane is a colorless oil. Water-soluble crystalline generally comes in the form of the amine salt (C12H19NO2*HCl, Mr 244.5g/mol)by reacting the free base with a mineral acid, typically HCl.
